Here is your chance to learn how!
The Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts and The Kanab City Library are proud to sponsor award-winning author Elise Hooper for a two day workshop on June 30th and July 1st here in beautiful Southern Utah.
Elise Hooper came to our attention when we discovered her book, Learning to See, which tells the story of famed American photographer Dorothea Lange. It begins with her arrival to San Francisco in search of a new life, eager to establish herself as a photographer in a vibrant and inspiring city. She meets the famous western artist Maynard Dixon and the story unfolds, telling the rich story of their marriage and family life. It also explores Lange’s personal journey as a professional woman, mother and wife.
Focusing on powerful women, Ms. Hooper is also the author of Fast Girls, The Other Alcott, Angels of the Pacific, and her latest work, The Library of Lost Dollhouses.

Learning to See
“Written with grace, empathy, and bright imagination, Learning to See gives us the vivid interior life of a remarkably resilient woman. Dorothea Lange’s story is about passion and art, love and family, but also about the sacrifices women make—and have always made—to illuminate the truth of the world.” (Danya Kukafka, national bestselling author of Girl in Snow)
Learning to See is a gripping account of the Dorothea Lange, the woman behind the camera who risked everything for art, activism, and love.
