Tour the Dixon Property

Experience the timeless beauty of the American West with a visit to the historic Maynard Dixon Home & Studio in Mt. Carmel, Utah. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., visitors are invited to explore the rustic cabin, historic studio, and spectacular grounds that inspired generations of celebrated artists. Nestled in the heart of Utah’s iconic national park country, the property is located just 13 miles east of the East Entrance to Zion National Park, approximately 60 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park, and only a scenic two-hour drive from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, making it an unforgettable stop on any Southwest adventure.

Originally the home and studio of renowned American painter Maynard Dixon and his wife, artist Edith Hamlin, the property later became the residence and studio of celebrated watercolorist Milford Zornes. In 1998, the Bingham family purchased and meticulously restored the property, preserving its remarkable history for future generations. Today, guests may choose between a self-guided tour or a docent-led experience, discovering the stories of the artists who lived and worked here while experiencing the breathtaking desert landscape that continues to inspire creativity.

Tours begin with check-in at the Thunderbird Foundation headquarters, located just south of the historic cabin and studio. Whether you’re an art lover, history enthusiast, photographer, or simply seeking the spirit of the Southwest, a visit to the Maynard Dixon Home & Studio is an experience you won’t soon forget.
