Paul & Susan Bingham
Paul and Susan Bingham founded the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts in 1999. The foundation was established to preserve the home and studio of Maynard Dixon in Mt. Carmel, Utah. The Binghams had a particular interest in preserving the Dixon’s legacy, a well-known artist who had lived and worked in the area. In order to accomplish this goal, they embarked on a project to restore Dixon’s summer home and studio, which had fallen into disrepair. The restoration project was a massive undertaking, but with the help of the community, the Binghams were able to successfully restore the home and studio to its former glory. Today, the Maynard Dixon home and studio serves as a museum and cultural center, and is open to the public for tours and events. The restoration of the Maynard Dixon home and studio was a major accomplishment for the Thunderbird Foundation and a testament to the Binghams’ dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of the area.
Unfortunately, Paul Bingham passed away in 2022, but his legacy is still being carried on by Susan Bingham who continues to lead the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts with the same passion and dedication as her late husband. Susan has made it her mission to ensure that the foundation and the Maynard Dixon home and studio remain a vital part of the community. She continues to organize events, exhibitions, and educational programs at the property, and to support local artists.
The foundation and the Maynard Dixon home and studio are now an important part of the community, serving as a cultural hub and a testament to the Binghams’ vision and dedication. Susan’s continuing efforts ensure that the legacy of both Paul and Maynard Dixon will continue to be honored and celebrated for years to come.
